What is happening in Republican states like TEXAS?

The Texas state government is using gerrymandering to redraw voting maps in a way that gives Republicans more power in Congress, even if they don’t win the most votes overall. By carefully shaping district lines, they can pack Democratic-leaning voters into fewer districts and spread Republican voters out to control more seats. They are doing this to strengthen their party’s grip on political power, reduce the influence of communities of color and younger voters, and make it harder for Democrats to win fair representation.

California state leaders proposed new California congressional maps that would net more Democratic House seats in an attempt to counter Texas's gerrymandering ahead of the 2026 elections.

Now it's up to California voters to approve the new maps!

Californians will vote on the new map November 4, 2025 in a statewide special election!

Why is it so important to vote YES on Proposition 50?

A YES vote on Proposition 50 empowers Californians to take a proactive stand for fair representation and democracy by responding decisively to partisan redistricting efforts underway in Republican states like Texas.

This measure would allow use of a new, legislature-drawn congressional map for the 2026–2030 elections while still preserving the future role of the independent Citizens Redistricting Commission, which resumes control after the 2030 Census. 

Backed by prominent figures like Gov. Gavin Newsom, Barack Obama, and unions, Proposition 50 is a safeguard against undemocratic power plays from the Trump-aligned Republican agenda. 

In short, casting a YES vote signals that California won’t sit back while democracy is under threat—it will fight for representation that reflects the will of the people.

What makes California different than Texas?

Here is the difference… Governor Greg Abbott has never put the vote to the people of Texas on redistricting. In fact, the majority of Texas don’t agree with the Texas Republican law makers decision to do so.

Governor Gavin Newsom is giving the power to the people of California by holding a special statewide election to give the power to the people to chose to redisctrict or not.

Simply put . . . Governor Newson believes in the democratic process and knows the PEOPLE have the power… Not the people IN power.
